champagne problems

Wow! After weeks of nothing much to post about, I finally have a decent amount of stuff to post about!

First here’s a couple of Chase’s pics of my Wanda at Zooboo last weekend.

And my parents!

Monday I got something in the mail I’d been waiting on for QUITE A WHILE!

This is the RS Propmasters Boushh helmet, I got #15 out of 100. It’s gorgeous! It lights up! Ahhhh!

I do still have a ton of updates/fixes/replacements I want to do with my old Boushh costume to go with this, but I may go ahead and throw it on as-is with this helmet during our white backdrop shoots the rest of the year. By the time we were doing white backdrop shoots I’d already sold my original helmet, so my white backdrop shots of my Boushh are helmet-less. I can always reshoot it later when I do the updates.

This helmet will prob never leave the house, I won’t be taking this to conventions or events most likely. I do still have my unfinished helmet from 2017, so in the future Chase may finish that one up for me for trooping.

Anyway ahhhh I finally have a Boushh helmet again! The unboxing video is up on youtube if you wanna see.

Tuesday I took the dogs’ costumes out to do a test fit.

They were still a little too long in the legs, they could just step right out of them. So I added another strap to keep the legs up, took up Walker’s cape a little and also stitched the tunics down to the undersuit so they wouldn’t flare out.

The rest of the week was some more “spring” cleaning and organizing. Finally got the rest of the pantry food thrown away, started cleaning the inside of the fridge, organized my closet a bit, etc etc.

I also got my costumes for the weekend out to get cleaned up. Leia needs a bath but didn’t have time for it, she’s got some stains that need to get soaked out… need to keep it in my mental notes for next time.

(Like, what did I DO last time I wore Leia?? LOL)

I also got Dorothy out and got her steamed. And just like in 2017 when I last had her out, I tried to get those orange-ish stains off the sleeves. A lot of it is in the seamline towards the armpit area, but it’s not All in the armpit area, some of it on the outer part of the cuff – so I don’t think it’s from sweat or deodorant. (Also I’ve never had sweat or deodorant markings turn ORANGE.) My guess is that at some point during the moving era, 2007-2008, when I had a lot of my costumes all stored in large bins and boxes together, it rubbed up against one of the Starfires and got some orange makeup transfer. But it’s not totally coming off with even my best stain removers, which usually works on my Starfire makeup, so I dunno. I didn’t want to put it through the stress of oxi-clean, nor did I have time to soak and dry the whole dress, so I just used my spot treatments and I think it helped a little? Maybe? I dunno. Anyway.

Friday I threw on Leia after work and I met my parents with the dogs in their jedi costumes to show them to their doggie daycare.

Saturday morning we early voted! No wait at all. Ran a few errands and then came home and I got into Dorothy.

Since I had some extra time while getting ready, I decided to experiment. I hadn’t been happy with the way my lashes looked in Leia friday, so I wanted to try gluing the fake lashes UNDER my real lashes instead of on top. I’ve tried it a couple of times before with no success, but in those instances I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to keep trying. Saturday, I had the time. It was not easy, I don’t think they stuck well, at one point while I was doing the rest of the makeup, one of them just… fell off with no prompting. But I do think it looked better? I at least didn’t have a wonky lash strip showing and no lashes angled down over my eyes. I’ll have to keep practicing.

The reason I wore Dorothy Saturday was it was my grandma’s 98th birthday! Everybody wanted me to wear a costume to visit her, so I decided Dorothy is something everybody knows, its easy to wear, so that’s what i picked.

We all went down to spend some time with her at her nursing home, brought cupcakes, presents, etc. It was fun and I think the other residents enjoyed seeing Dorothy too.

On the way out though…

I was like what is happening with my foot! The whole bottom of one of the shoes came off! Thankfully it happened AS we were walking out the door and it look fixable. Bad me though… I put it back in the bin like that. Years from now when I pull it out to wear again, I’m going to want to kick my past self for not fixing it before putting it away LOL

Sunday was a busy at-home day. Cleaned up my sewing room, got Leia and Dorothy put away. Did a puzzle I got at dragoncon:

And then I spent the rest of the day working on some small Shin updates before the white backdrop shoot. I don’t have many pics to show of this, so here’s a Luna pic to break up the wall of text.

First thing was I took the kama and tabards outside and mixed up some “dirty” brown dye (Dharma “Chocolate Brown” with some RIT tan mixed in. The greenish tones in the tan neutralized the almost purple-ish undertones of the brown.) and sprayed it on the lower portions of both. Mostly I was wanting to knock down some of the purple undertones I’d ended up with on both pieces, and it helped a lot. I did a few rounds, because I started off pretty light and wanted it to build up. I need to look at it again this morning and see if I want to do more.

I also mixed up a similar mix of very watered down paint, put that in a spray bottle and sprayed it on my gaiters. My gaiters are faux suede so dye won’t stick. Again started really light and tried to build up, I’m sure when I go look at them in a bit here they will need more for it to be noticable.

I also finally fixed my wig problems! I wasn’t happy with the wig at Dragoncon and actually bought another to restyle from the ground up. I got it out earlier this week and compared the 2… and I just liked the colour of the one from dragoncon better, so the new one just got put away for a future project. So I set about figuring out how to make the original wig not look so fluffy and triangular. The fix was actually pretty easy… I just hit it with the steamer. That was all it needed and now it actually looks how I wanted.

And I also finally got back to the cape. I got the edges hemmed by hand, I was about to install a hook and eye at the neck but dinner arrived, so I’ll finish up that tonight, and cut up the bottom for a raggedy look and do a little weathering.

This fabric I used for the cape is SO heavy it’s crazy. This is definitely not going to be a con piece, unless I’m trooping in zero degree weather. But I’ll have it for the shoot.

This week I’ll finish up the weathering and the cape, so it’s all ready to go for Saturday shoot. I also need to get whatever else I’m going to shoot in the first session out and checked over – I’m thinking it may be Shin, Taylor and Mara. No idea what I said it would be last week, but those are the 3 I feel like I need pics of first because I didn’t get many at dcon.

Also this week I’m going to be digging into Taylor again because I like the look of the new iridescent t-shirt dress she debuted this past weekend in Miami so much, I want to make mine look more like it. I won’t get it exact but I’m going to sprinkle in some larger sequins. I got them ordered and they arrive tomorrow. (If they don’t match, I’m sending them back and not doing it, but I think they will)

Chase is also finishing up his Eras tour outfit. I’m excited to see the finished product. Can’t wait to see Ash’s too. Ahh it’s so close!
